Children's Spiritual Formation

Sunday school is not being held in person due to COVID-19 safety protocols.  We look forward to seeing everyone in the Fall!

We hold Sunday school classes beginning at 10:15 a.m. through the first half of the 10.30 a.m. service (ending around 11:00  a.m.) Children then come up and meet their parents in the service. Sunday school is for children, ages 3 years old (by the beginning of September and toilet-trained) through 5th grade. We currently have four classes (Pre-K, K/1, 2/3, 4/5) with four teachers per team who rotate teaching each week. Sunday school generally meets 2-3 times per month.

We use the Sparkhouse Lectionary curriculum. It is a rich encouraging role-play, art, crafts, music, storytelling, prayer, reflection, Bible study, discussion, and can also be tailored to respond to the spontaneous and special interests of individual students or classes as they arise. We are also blessed to have music teachers who work with each class most weeks to prepare a song for our monthly Youth Sundasy.

You can expect your child to come home with knowledge of a Bible story or faith tradition, awareness of the prayer requests of fellow students, questions they have come up with themselves or that have been posed in class, sometimes a craft they have created in response to a message. We hope you’ll enjoy exploring these ideas further at home together. We are more than happy to recommend resources if you want to go further with a given theme or idea at home.

We have a team of volunteer teachers who work to share God’s love with your children and explore their awakening faith and spirituality. You are of course welcome to observe sessions at any time. Once you know how much fun we have, you might find yourself volunteering.

How it Works

Drop your child off just before 10:15 a.m. in the preschool area of the church before you go in to the service. Teachers will direct you to the correct class. You may stay to settle your child, or leave them in our care immediately – you will know your child’s comfort levels. Your child will then walk up into church prior to the Eucharist with his/her class and teacher and will be reunited with you in the pews.

Summer Schedule

During the summer there are no Sunday school classes. Resources are placed at the back of the church to help keep your children happy and busy during the service.
