Fellowship Events

One of Emmanuel’s greatest strengths is the sense of community and caring we share for one another as well as for others in need. Through our parish activities, members of Emmanuel come together to share fellowship, build friendships and nurture our Emmanuel “family.”

Coffee Hour – After the 10:30 a.m. church service, Emmanuel provides coffee, tea, and light refreshments for adults and
children.

Newcomer Gatherings - Emmanuel hosts dinners and brunches two or three times per year for newcomers.

Fellowship Group Gatherings - Parishioners regularly gather for a meal, dessert and/or drinks to share in comaraderie, build friendships and discuss Emmanuel.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - The youth of Emmanuel prepare a supper of hot delicious pancakes for the church community on Shrove Tuesday, the last day before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. This traditional event has its roots in the old-world tradition of using up the fats on Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday before beginning the fast of Lent. Everyone is invited to attend.

Easter Egg Hunt - Come and have some Easter Egg fun!  After the 10:30 a.m. Easter service, there is be an Easter Egg hunt for all children around the church's lawn and garden.  In the event of rain, the egg hunt is held downstairs in the church.

Retreat at Shrine Mont -  The church retreat is held every spring at Shrine Mont in the Shenandoah Mountains in Orkney Springs, Virginia.  Come join us at our Shrine Mont Retreat.

Parish Picnic – In June, Emmanuel holds a picnic on the beautiful grounds of the Virginia Theological Seminary.  We grill hot dogs and hamburgers and have games for the children.

Fall Kick Off – Each fall we “kick-off” our church year with a special event. Some years we have savored a delicious
barbecue, while other years we have enjoyed brunch together after our church service.

Blessing of the Animals- In the fall, Emmanuel hosts a blessing of the animals in honor of St. Francis.  The Blessing is a short prayer service and each pet will receive a personal blessing by the clergy. All animals are welcome in their cages, on a leash or in a box. Stuffed animals and photos will also be blessed.

Breakfast with Saint Nicholas – After the 10:30 am service, familes enjoy a delicious brunch and children meet St. Nicholas and can discuss with him their Christmas wish list.

Christmas Pageant – All children are invited to take part in the joyful pageant on Chirstmas Eve as part of Emmaneul's Christmas Events.

Super Bowl Party –The Parish Hall is transformed into a “movie theater” with a huge TV and lots of comfortable seating.
