Refugee Ministry Update

We began helping a family from Afghanistan resettle in Alexandria in January 2022. The family is comprised of a mother and her daughter and three sons. All are adults, have housing, and are gainfully employed. Some of them speak English well, while others are working hard to become fluent. All have mastered their transportation needs although it is a constant challenge. One member of the family would like to be a child-care worker. One would like to teach mathematics and/or engineering. One would like to go to college and eventually teach mathematics. One would like to study pharmacology and become a pharmacist. The last member of the family dreams of attending community college. While they are grateful to be able to live here they all miss other members of their family and hope for the day when they can all be together again.

Our Refugee Ministry is made up of one member of our parish, Megan Coté, and a parishioner from Christ Church Episcopal in Old Town. They need and would welcome more volunteers to help them to be of service to the family. If you would like to help, reach out to Meghan. Some ways in which you could help include transportation support, food pantry shopping and delivery, and basic day to day navigation of more complex tasks like taxes and car maintenance. Thank you for keeping this family and our Refugee Ministry in your prayers. We continue to pray for them as well as all the people who have left their homes and countries to make a new home in our country.
