Bishop's Visit 2025

On Sunday, September 21, Emmanuel will welcome Bishop Mark Bourlakas for our bi-annual Diocese of Virginia Bishop’s Visitation. On this day Bishop Mark will perform the sacramental rite of Confirmation, as well as receive individuals who wish to officially make their commitment to the Episcopal Church. Those who would like to reaffirm their baptismal vows publicly are also welcome to do so at this service.

If you are considering, or committed to, reception into the Episcopal Church, or would like to reaffirm your baptismal vows at this service, please contact the office to complete the appropriate paperwork. Jen and Chuck are, as always, available for consultation.

The sacramental rite of Confirmation is generally performed when a teenager is 15 years or older. Confirmation is a rite in which the candidates "express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop" (BCP, p. 860). Emmanuel’s confirmation course will be held over the summer after the 10:00 am service: June 22, July 13, August 2, and August 24 from 11:30 am -1:30 pm.
